Building projects with Visual Studio on network drives

I’ve spent 3 days looking for o solution that would let me build projects on a network drive mapped from Mac OS X. The project I was working on has requires over 38Gb of space and using a network drive it’s faster that the laptop harddrive that has encryption on it. Also using the network drive I use the same location for building on Mac OS using Xcode and I have to spend less time to syncing the sources.

If you got strange errors while compiling using Visual Studio 2005 (or newer) on projects located on network drives here are some hints.

If the error is ACCESS DENIED (you’ll know by using Process Explorer) and the file server is running Mac OS, you must edit /etc/smb.conf and comment this line “vfs objects = darwinacl,darwin_streams
